What is an offering?
An offering is not linked to what we earn—it is freely given by Christians based on their financial situation in life. An offering may be given to express thanks, give praise, or to show our love for God. In the Methodist Church the offering is used to pay for the Ministers and mission work in the Circuit.
Some churches pass around a bag or plate for people to give, whilst others have a bag or plate at the entrance. Many church members may pay by regular giving done by direct debit. The offering is brought up to the minister or person leading the service and is dedicated with a pray. You do not have to give anything.
